What’s Possible with Your Greenland Paddle

An interactive exploration beyond technique

I was first drawn to the Greenland paddle because its quiet.

But watching how Inuit paddlers were using it opened up a completely different way of understanding kayaking for me. It changed my experience so much that I became a kayak coach, to share what I was discovering.

This is an invitation to explore some of those ideas together, and what they might make possible for you in terms of stability, ease, and speed.

Instead of talking about these ideas in theory, we’ll explore them together, on the mat with a Greenland paddle. The intention is to let your body feel what’s more stable, what’s easier on your joints, and what allows power to emerge with more ease… and to notice these qualities the next time you’re out kayaking.

Some of the things we’ll explore together:

Same Paddle, Different Relationship with the Water

A short video comparison showing how two paddlers both using a Greenland paddle experience very different levels of stability, ease, and efficiency — and why that difference matters.

Alignment and firm water

How alignment and the ability to firm the water work together to create stability as you paddle, while also reducing strain on the shoulders and joints.

Power moving forward through the body

How directing power forward changes both how stable you feel and how much effort your paddling requires.

Three-dimensional movement

How three-dimensional movement opens up balance, bracing, and rolling as part of the same way of moving.

Wearing your kayak

What it means to “wear” your kayak, and how that changes your relationship with balance and control.

Moving from managing a boat to something that feels more like dancing with the sea.
